Empowering Young Minds

From Trucking Tales to Rights Rangers: How a Winter Storm Sparked a Movement

Two years ago, I was deep in the world of trucking—writing a 200-page memoir with over
50,000 words. But the stories kept flowing, and before I knew it, I had 107,000 words and no
clear direction. I was lost in the lanes of my own narrative.

Then came November 2024. After attending a gala event in Washington, D.C., I found myself
locked down in a Montana winter storm. That moment of stillness cracked something open. A
new idea emerged—not about roads and rigs, but about rights and resilience.

The Pivot: From Memoir to Mission

I paused the trucking book and began writing a children’s book for ages 6–12. It was bold,
colorful, and packed with purpose—30 illustrated pages and 188 pages of stories. I hired a copy
editor and a formatting specialist, but the first editor didn’t work out. Just when I was ready to
give up, I remembered a conversation with a friend. I reached out—and bingo! She was a copy
editor. The edits were smooth, but the Amazon price point became a hurdle.

So I made a bold decision: I split the book into five smaller volumes.

But the creative floodgates had opened. In the interim, I began writing Human Rights for Kids:
Everyone Matters, a nonfiction companion that would soon evolve into a full series. The original
children’s book was now being revised for ages 9–12, and from that revision, Volume One,
Volume Two, and a Facilitator’s Guide were born. At the same time, the Rights Rangers—a
team of fictional heroes—hatched into existence.

Suddenly, I had two series:

  • A nonfiction series: Human Rights for Kids
  • A fiction series: Rights Rangers Adventures

Both rooted in empowerment, education, and heart.

A Flashback That Sparked It All

Rewind two years. I was prepping for my Real Estate Renewal exam when an ad popped up on
my screen. Something about it stopped me cold. I made a note to research it later—and when I
did, I was stunned. The ad was promoting a concept I’d been dreaming about for decades. I
dove in, signed up, and began exploring immediately after finishing my continuing education
classes.

That spark led me back to writing. But this time, it wasn’t just about trucking—it was about
transformation.

What’s Growing Now

I’ve since explored what publishers think, refined my messaging, and built a bridge between
storytelling and advocacy. The journey has been anything but linear—but it’s been deeply
rewarding.

From winter storms to illustrated pages, from real estate ads to Rights Rangers, this path has
taught me that creativity doesn’t follow a map—it follows a calling.
